The Payslip and Real Tax Rules

MoneyCQ doesn’t invent tax. Each region pack encodes a country’s real income-tax brackets, social levies, and retirement scheme, versioned by tax year.

What it is

The payslip is the weekly record of your earnings: gross salary in, then tax withheld and retirement contributions posted as separate ledger entries, then your net pay — the money you actually live on.

What it does

  • Applies progressive tax brackets and deductions per region (PAYE, FICA, NI, EI, CPF and friends).
  • Posts employee and employer retirement contributions separately.
  • Charges business tax, property tax, and capital-gains tax per the region’s rules.
  • Honestly simplifies where a full tax code would be too complex for a teaching game.

How to use it

  1. Read the payslip/ledger lines each week to see gross, tax, retirement, and net.
  2. Budget from net pay — the number that actually reaches your account.
  3. Change your retirement rate from the Money screen (see Retirement & Locked Savings).

Good to know

There are 17 country packs plus the Generic baseline. Rates are checked against official sources and carry their tax year, so they get refreshed as budgets land.
